In 2019 my mother turned 80. My brother and I, as it often happens in the relationship between a mother and their sons, we had only a vague inkling of what Alessandra, as our mother is called, would have liked or disliked to celebrate her birthday. Luck wanted me to have friends from Puglia … good friends. People who, despite the pressing rhythms of today’s life, still enjoy to welcome you into their home… and who when they do it, they do it well, they do it with taste. Puglia is also this, in addition to many other things … it is hospitality, a smile, a joke, an open door and a set table, music and chatting until late.

Those lucky enough to visit Puglia, in addition to the natural, historical and artistic beauties that this region offers, should look for its soul … there is no need for a long journey, it doesn’t take much to see it and enjoy it. In my case, I think I have succeeded luckily. A weekend was enough… three full and fun days. A beautiful house in Polignano a Mare opened for the occasion, to give intimacy; a young cook capable of combining traditional flavors and ingredients with dishes that have the world inside; a small group of local musicians, with their enthralling “pizziche” and “tarante”… all blended with the sympathy of our guests and the desire to be together.

The party was a success… the birthday girl returned happy to her everyday life, because she carries a memory inside. I wish everyone to have the same luck… in Puglia it is not difficult.
